How VORDME and fly a circle-to-earth approach in a B744?
I've been flying ILS approach using the B744 for most airports of Autoland and manual mode. And sometimes VORDME approach. The glide path is quite simple. VORDME But the question is after FAF am I suppose to fly to the MDA immediately and then descend to the TDZ when I meet the RVR. Or do I need to use VNAV to descend to MDA (as a glide path down) and then the TDZ? Most boards that I saw drew a straight line from the FAF to the RWY as a glide path and seemed to ask a pilot to make a gradual decline. Another issue is I saw some dishes can approach the circle of the earth, but only to show that at a table with the necessary MDA, but shows the approach path. Is there standard procedure of laps and get all the drivers that follow. Or will depend on the individual needs of airports? It is a gradual decline which could use VNAV to help, or is an immediate VFR MDA MDA and then to the final leg? Final question, should I have 3 green Vref and set before or after the FAF (B744)?
In general terms, whether VNAV or VS would be acceptable ... You are the pilot, and flying airtplane so is your decision how best to cope with their situation. Typically, most airlines may not allow normal circle to land procedures, but are authorized to carry out a similar procedure that requires minimal VFR or 1000 'above the threshold necessary to initiate the approach. The most easy to make a straight in approach would be to select VS and get off at a certain speed vertical to MDA. 1000 feet per minute is typical, but some require more approaches. Approximately 2 DME before the FAF, select VS and shoot downward to 1000. If you have your shortlist of aircraft altitude microphones are leveled properly in the MDA. A couple rules may help: Groundspeed x 5 vertical velocity is required, so do not go lower than this number. It also contains a data printing variables to know when to stop the MDA if you have a visual on the runway, and his hand is often easier to fly the approach below the MDA as the automation is usually slower to respond to inputs that your hands are. When you actually fly a circling approach, you are required to maintain no less than the MDA of the FAF, until in a position of When a normal descent to landing can be made. At my airline, usually call it somewhere in the wind, entered in the past. From there, a normal descent to landing can be made as if you are flying a standard VFR traffic pattern. Almost all I know airlines have similar OpSpecs, which will never make a circle to land approach down to minimums. A 747 requires a large radius and is in turn established THT ie must have the visibility needed to initiate the circular verfore criteria approach. The idea behind this is that should never be any doubt that you will do in the land in a circling approach. A circling approach in IMC would be illegal, after all, and if at any time you go after leaving IMC MDA was required to initiate the missed approach. As for your question 3 green, each airline is developing a standard approach profile ger requiring down and closed, and the aircraft is in landing configuration before descending below the FAF. In my company We base out of the glide path into a precision approach and outside of the FAF DME distance in a non-precision approach. Normally, this should be done by a certain point. As the train takes a while to actually go down and block, actually tell us to be configured by 1000 'AFE, but every item on the checklist must be done before the FAF. usually its all done with great advance though, so it never really leaves.
